Purpose

I am a lesbian going into Mechanical Engineering. This blog is meant to do two things: a.) relieve the stress on myself from being closeted, and b.) to let people know that there are members of the LGBT community in engineering fields.

If you want to contact me, you can send an email to lgbt.engineer@gmail.com

LGBT Center on College Campuses

There was one time where I did visit the LGBT center at my school.  My roommate had gone out of town, and they were having a movie night.  This was about a year ago, and I haven't gone  back since. I've been meaning to, but that time I went I still felt like an outsider.  No one else seemed to understand what it was to be a minority in the engineering world twice over (one as a female, two as a lesbian).  They were nice people, but I just couldn't relate.  They all seem to be in fields where members of the LGBT community were accepted, whereas there is still seems to be a lot of stigma in engineering.

  1. Unless you're at a intolerant religious school, I find that engineering kids are just as accepting of LGBT as everyone else in college (which is to say that they ARE very accepting). There is more intolerance for those who use internet explorer as their default browser than for those who want to marry a girl. After all, most of the guys in your classes can relate :) Don't be so afraid.
